We Are Part of the Environmental Program Zelená škola

For the 2024–2026 school years, Brilliant Stars is taking part in Zelená škola (Green School), Slovakia’s largest two-year environmental education program. As part of this initiative, we are once again establishing an Eco Collegium at our school, bringing together our students, teachers, and parent community. This diverse working group will contribute towards our eco-initiatives, accompany our environmental audit and explore our core theme with Zelená škola: "Transport and Air Pollution."

About Zelená škola

Zelená škola (Green School) is an environmental education program for kindergartens, primary, secondary, and special schools. Its mission is to contribute to the prevention and resolution of environmental issues and to inspire real changes in how schools operate and educate.

Our Environmental Activities

Alongside our participation in the Zelená škola programme, environmental awareness is woven into many aspects of school life at Brilliant Stars. Through student initiatives, community events, and partnerships across Bratislava, we aim to help our students develop a practical sense of responsibility for the environment and the communities they live in.

Jog-a-thon: Running for a Greener Future
Each spring and autumn, the Brilliant Stars community comes together for our annual Jog-a-thon, an event that promotes health, teamwork, and environmental responsibility. The initiative is organised in support of a cause selected by our Student Council. In recent years, students have chosen to support a tree-planting initiative that brings large trees to kindergartens, schools, and community gardens across the city. Every euro raised contributes directly to planting more trees and improving local green spaces. In preparation for the event, students explore environmental topics in class, raise awareness, and collect pledges from family members, friends, and neighbours. Their enthusiasm and commitment are always inspiring.

Eco Collegium
As part of the Zelená škola programme, we re-established an Eco Collegium, a collaborative working group that brings together students, teachers, and parents to guide our environmental initiatives. This group plays a central role in implementing our Environmental Action Plan, which focuses on the theme of Transport and Clean Air. We are grateful to the parents and students from Years 5–8 who joined our first meeting. Together, we explored ideas and proposals that will guide the development of our environmental actions in the coming months!

Tree Planting Initiatives – 2025
In 2025, the Brilliant Stars community supported two tree-planting initiatives that contribute to greener public spaces across Bratislava.

Planting at Železná Studnička:
In collaboration with dm drogerie markt Slovensko, the #10000Stromov initiative of Bratislava – hlavné mesto SR, and Mestské lesy v Bratislave, parents, staff, students, and alumni joined together to plant trees in the Železná Studnička and Kačín areas. Trees planted included: 5 white firs, 1 silver maple, 6 oaks, 3 European larches. This initiative contributes to the long-term preservation and enhancement of Bratislava’s urban forests. We are grateful to all partners, families, and volunteers who supported the planting.

Trees for Animals and Children – Bratislava Zoo
Our school also supported the Trees for Animals and Children initiative at Bratislava Zoo. While we were unable to participate in the planting day in person, our community contributed by organising and donating trees to help create greener, healthier spaces for both animals and visiting families.

Through initiatives like these, we aim to strengthen students’ understanding of environmental stewardship and community responsibility.
