ERASMUS+ Project: CLIL
Empowering Multilingual Learners: Building Relationships in Diverse Global Environments
Our European project, under the Erasmus+ programme, aims to enhance teaching practices for multilingual learners in diverse international classrooms. It focuses on strengthening language learning, intercultural understanding, and innovative teaching approaches. Our specific objectives are:
(1) Developing effective strategies for teaching a universal language (English) in international settings with students from various cultures and language backgrounds;
(2) Exploring innovative teaching methods like CLIL to engage and teach EU 'home' languages to diverse classrooms;
(3) Fostering enthusiasm for learning a second (or further) EU languages.
Student Group Mobilities
Escola Martinet School (Barcelona - Spain)
A group of Year 8 students participated in a student mobility to Escola Martinet in Barcelona, where they were warmly welcomed by a bilingual local school community. During the week, students integrated into the daily school programme, participating in lessons such as Spanish, Catalan, and Physical Education. They also read English stories to nursery pupils and supported classroom activities, providing opportunities to practise language, service, and leadership while experiencing local school life and building friendships across cultures.
Outside of the classroom, each day was filled with cultural adventures that brought the city of Barcelona to life. From exploring the historic Cathedral of Barcelona, to discovering marine wonders at the city’s aquarium, and enjoying guided walking tours through the charming Gothic Quarter, our students soaked up the Catalan culture with curiosity and enthusiasm. The experience not only strengthened the bonds within our class but offered a unique "keyhole view" into life in another country. It’s safe to say that, for many, this trip will remain a core memory filled with laughter and learning!
Berlin Bilingual School (Berlin - Germany)
Another group of Year 8 students travelled to Berlin as part of the Erasmus+ mobility programme. The visit focused on cultural exchange, collaboration, and building connections with students from another educational context. Through shared activities and discussions, students explored different perspectives on learning and school life while representing the values and ethos of their school. The experience also included exploring Berlin’s rich cultural and historical environment, helping students deepen their understanding of European history and cultural diversity.
Job-Shadowing
"Being open and curious about how others teach is deeply rewarding, and I am very grateful for this opportunity." - Teacher
International School of Prague (Prague - Czechia)
Staff members visited the International School of Prague as part of our Erasmus+ mobility activities to observe teaching practices and school culture in an international learning environment. The visit focused on exploring how international schools support multilingual learners and foster a strong sense of belonging among diverse student communities. Through classroom observations and professional dialogue with educators, staff gained valuable insights and new ideas that will help enrich our own school community.
Escola Martinet (Barcelona - Spain)
As part of our Erasmus+ mobility activities, staff members visited Escola Martinet to observe teaching practices within a bilingual learning environment where Catalan and Spanish are used alongside other languages in daily instruction. The visit focused on exploring approaches to multilingual education, inclusive classroom practices, and how schools support students from diverse linguistic backgrounds. The collaboration has developed into a longer-term partnership, which also included a reciprocal visit from Escola Martinet staff to our school, allowing both teams to exchange ideas and strengthen professional dialogue around multilingual learning and community building.
Course
'Learn to Teach Any Subject with Drama' (Seville - Spain)Two members of our staff participated in an Erasmus+ training course in Seville focused on using drama as a tool for learning and engagement in the classroom. During the course, teachers explored a range of drama-based teaching methods designed to support creativity, communication, and active participation in learning. The experience provided practical strategies and inspiration that will help enrich classroom practice and support more dynamic and interactive learning environments at our school.
Expert Visitor
As part of this project, we also had the opportunity to host an 'expert visitor' for a week who was able to observe our school practices and offer context-relevant first-hand feedback and support! We welcomed Dr. Kamran Namdar, an international educational consultant and researcher with extensive experience in education and social development. During his visit, Dr. Namdar observed school practices, engaged in discussions with staff, students, parents, and leadership, and provided insights on strengthening approaches that support human development, diversity, and inclusive education. He also delivered a presentation for parents and educators on empowering young people as active contributors to positive social change. The visit provided valuable reflection and professional dialogue, helping our school further develop its educational vision and practices.
